- Unit project will be the designing of a Facebook page for one of the characters
- Unit in-class essay will occur when the novel is complete. This will be a process piece that will take between 4-5 classes to finish

- We have just begun our final novel study for 2024, The Outsiders. This will be a class read aloud, but if a student is absent it is up to them to catch up on each reading for homework. We will have content quizzes after every 4 chapters. Reminders for these quizzes will be posted on google classroom as well as on weebly.

- Students have been given a copy of the poem that will be on their test tomorrow. They can make whatever notes they want on this sheet, and are allowed to bring it in with them to the test tomorrow. If they forget their sheet, I will have another copy of the poem for them, it just won't have their notes on it.

- Midterm Review Project groups who did not have their materials today, you are presenting on Monday, January 15.
- Students with missing work were given a note last week letting them know what they needed to submit. Anyone with missing activities was given until today, January 12, to pass that work in. If students have not submitted items I will follow up with their families after midterms. All projects are posted under their corresponding unit on our Google Classroom.

- Happy New Year! As our Grade 7 students are new to midterms, in today's class we focused on study strategies and a study plan. As explained during Curriculum Night, and outlined in our SS google classroom, there is a combined ELA/SS midterm. Students are already graded on specific Social Studies concepts, so the focus on the midterm is really to see if they can apply their general understanding of what we have covered. They will not be expected to memorize details or events, those have already been covered thoroughly in the unit activities and projects.

- tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 22, students will be finishing a "Jigsaw" group activity. They were given 3 classes to complete the research and create a brief report or slideshow. The assignment has been explained several times and a detailed outline provided. All groups must be prepared for tomorrow's activity as they will be joining a new group where they are the expert on their assigned topic. This was an in-class activity and the time provided was more than sufficient for completion.

- We will be viewing the film version of War Horse next week when we complete our novel study. Students should now be drafting their persuasive essays. These essays will be peer-edited and revised during class time, so the due date will be set as we progress.

- Your unit assignment (persuasive essay) has been posted on google classroom, along with the grading scale. We will go over the grading scale together in class next week. In your chapter notes you should be focusing on examples from the novel that you will include in your essay.
- Get started EARLY; the exact due date has not been set because it will depend on the completion of the novel, but this type of project can not be completed (well) the night before it is due, so you should be working on it now.

- Tomorrow we will begin writing assignment #1 (of 2) for this unit, as students will be writing a persuasive essay. Tomorrow's class is important because I will be covering the elements of a persuasive essay and outlining the requirements for theirs.
