- We are currently starting a poetry unit. Following today's poetry taste test students are required to select FOUR poems that they will analyze over the next couple of weeks
- Students will also need to select a novel for their independent reading project (Due in mid April). They will get 2 reading periods a week in class but have to complete most of the reading and the unit project on their own (thus, independent). If they do not have a novel selected by Friday I will give them one from my shelf that they will have to complete.

- We started a media unit this week. Students will watch and respond to 5-6 short films for a minor visual grade. Next week the class will respond to a feature length film. We will apply the literary elements learned from studying other genres to visual art, as well as introduce other elements of cinematography (sound, light, etc.). Their responses will be graded as a major visual mark.
- PLEASE BRING HEADPHONES TOMORROW! It is also important that they have their laptops/Chromebooks with them and fully charged each day.
- If you did not finish the responses from today's video, please do them for homework as we will be moving on to a different film tomorrow!

- Today we did some peer editing and revising. Remember that revising is check the paper to make sure the paragraphs are in the best order, make sure the evidence is complete and that it actually supports your thesis, you can add information where you feel it is needed, and subtract it where you feel it is not. Editing is when you check the paper for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
- Tomorrow we will look at proper MLA citation, then we will do a final pass and submit our finished papers for Monday. We'll also go through the MLA checklist and make sure everything is in ship shape!
- Important: Please submit all notes and drafts to me, both digitally and paper copies!

- NOTE: Essays containing plagiarism will receive a ZERO, no questions asked. This includes the influence of ai generated responses. The point of this exercise is to gain practice at reading, thinking, researching, and writing.

- We will be viewing the film on Monday or Tuesday, and we will begin essay writing on the next day. We'll take about a week to get through this process piece. Students will be required to extract references from the text to help support a thesis. Essays will include an intro, 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion.
